James Avtges

Roboticist, Maker, Ph.D. Candidate at Northwestern University

I’m James, a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering and NDSEG Fellow at Northwestern University, advised by Prof. Todd Murphey. My work focuses on the interactions between mechanical agents and machine learning properties. My research interests also include real-world active learning, tactile sensing, dexterous manipulation, and soft robots.

Previously, I completed my MS in Robotics at NU under Prof. Ryan Truby, and worked for NASA JPL on multiple projects, including Deep Space Optical Communications which launched in 2023.
